Lydia was a seller of purple dyes* from Thyatira in the First Century CE and known to be a very hospitable business woman. She is named amongst the Christian women of the Bible who entertained the Apostle Paul on his journeys.
Knitting was important in the Mediterranean and was a craft of the Phoenicians.
*The Madder Root and primarily Moluscs produced purple dyes principally used for cloth worn by the leading figures of the Roman Empire. |
